“ I came with family to Breakfast at Valerie's for breakfast and we will be back soon. Our server was friendly, courteous and efficient. We sat at a table because at the time all the booths were occupied. The place has ample room for occupancy. On the table was a regular menu and a winter menu. The lemon blueberry French toast ordered was from the winter menu and the strawberry waffle combo was ordered from the regular menu. Both dishes were plentiful and delicious! Kudos to the chef. “ If you've been reading reviews then you must know by now that this beloved restaurant has changed owners. I think the only way to fairly review Breakfast at Valerie's is to review it as a brand new restaurant and not compare it to its former glory. The dining area is clean and open in this wait-to-be-seated breakfast and lunch diner. Booths line the walls with tables in the center of the floor, or you can belly up to the breakfast bar in the back. The furniture and decor lack any distinct personality. It's all clean lines and minimal, but the vibe from the patrons and staff is cheery and friendly. The menu is extensive, with a wide array of American breakfast and lunch fare. Multiple varieties of omelettes, waffles, pancakes, sandwiches, and salads. Prices are on the high side of medium, and the portion sizes are "just right". My husband was disappointed in the size of his country fried steak and eggs breakfast, but later commented that it was "just right" and that he didn't feel weighed down or overly full. My husband had eggs over medium and I had mine poached. The eggs were cooked perfectly! Absolutely perfectly. The rest of the food was not outstanding, but tasty. If you told me the sausage gravy and the hollandaise sauce came prepackaged - I'd believe you. It probably did. The coffee was hot and good. No fresh creamer available; only the shelf stable international delights on the table. The server offered us milk as an alternative which I thought was nice of her. In fact, she was wonderful all morning. When we had finished our meal she offered our coffee in to go cups and topped them off generously at the end as well as throughout the meal. We commented on her timely coffee refreshes and it was then that she pointed out the coffee is $4 a cup! She said she wanted to be sure we had our fill of coffee and got our money's worth. We did! We're looking for a new place to be "our" breakfast place and we traveled about 45 minutes to try Breakfast at Valerie's. I would say it probably isn't worth a 45 minute drive, but I can only hope that when we do find a special place for breakfast that the staff will be as attentive and charming as they were at Breakfast at Valerie's. The food was 3 stars, but the service adds a full extra star to this review. ”

“ Still continue to lead the breakfast scene with service and versatility. After some disappointing experiences at IHOP, Carol's Corner, Javi's and Vancouver Diner, Valerie's is a huge relief just knowing that we found them and can get a solid breakfast when I'm not feeling it in my own kitchen. This time BF got a jalapeno pepper omelet without any dairy options and French toast. I got a chicken burger (which is a grilled chicken breast, not ground chicken) without lettuce, pickle or condiments and tots. French toast is one of the better versions we found, though I don't think it would make the transition to leftovers. Their tots are lightly crunchy and perfectly fried. SO good! The burger was also very tasty with the super soft, slightly sugary hamburger bun. It was just right with just onions and tomato on it. Our server was a total pro and the prices here are actually reasonable even for the bottomless Sprite that BF can't do without. ”

The lady that served us was super sweet and made sure we had everything needed. It's a mom and pop diner vibe. I had half my country fried steak the next day which was perfect for my hangover ”

“ I hadn't been here for a couple years and my last review was less than stellar. I decided to give them another try and glad I did. The staff was much friendlier and more attentive this time. The food came quickly and was good. Solid basic breakfast food. One drawback for me is the very open concept. Very loud and not a ton of privacy or an intimate feel while dining. But glad I gave them another chance and won't be totally avoiding this place like I did before. Give them a try! ”

“ My cousin wanted cheap breakfast close to the airport, this popped up. Here was our experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking. We didn't really have any issues. Seating: Room for about 100 people. Great for groups! Vibes: It's not in Downtown Portland, across the bridge and closer to the airport. The spot itself is relatively simple with decorations of island culture here and there. You're greeted by a busy staff member and the sounds of numerous chatter from customers. Great place for individuals or groups especially if you want a classic breakfast with some nice local variations (like the biscuits and gravy I got)! FOOD: Biscuits and Sausage Gravy (Recommend) I had a small order but it was pretty fulfilling. Sunnyside-up eggs and a request for sausage made it a bit more hearty and comforting. Add some hot sauce and you're good to go! CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly people and quick service. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Fantastic! Nothing too flashy, just good old comfort breakfast, reasonable prices, and pleasant experiences. This seemed to be loved by locals so be sure to come early if you want to eat in a timely manner.
